Aurora, CO -- Nine people were injured Wednesday morning after a stolen truck carrying seven juveniles ran a red light. The accident occurred at the intersection of 6th Avenue and Sable Boulevard.
The Aurora Police Department states that the pickup truck, a 2010 Toyota Tacoma, was stolen on Tuesday from the Morehead Recreation Center.
Officers in an unmarked car saw the vehicle Wednesday morning on 6th Avenue and followed it. The driver became suspicious and ran a red light. The truck then struck an RTD bus, another truck, and an Aurora Parks and Recreation vehicle.
The stolen pickup truck rolled several times, hitting a power box before it came to a stop in a ditch. The juveniles in the pickup sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital. The drivers of the RTD bus and the APR vehicle were also injured and received medical care. The driver of the other truck sustained no injuries in the crash.
Police closed 6th Avenue in both directions until 3:00 p.m. to extricate some of the victims and repair the power box. The Aurora Police Department is still investigating the theft of the pickup truck that lead up to the crash.
