Crowley County, CO -- An accident involving three vehicles just west of Crowley killed one person and shut down a highway Thursday afternoon.
The crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Highway 96 just three miles east of Olney Springs.
According to Colorado State Patrol, 20-year-old Kendra Woodward was traveling west on Highway 96 in her Toyota Camry when she drifted into the eastbound lane and struck a semi-truck driven by 47-year-old Timothy Geier head-on.
After the collision, the Toyota went off the north side of the highway and came to a rest in an open field, while the semi-truck slid to a stop partially sticking off of the road. A Dodge Durango, whose driver hasn’t been identified, then ran into the back of the semi-truck.
According to investigators, Woodward died at the scene of the accident. She was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, but police suspect distracted driving to be a factor in the incident. The crash is still under investigation and no charges have been filed.
