Aurora, CO -- A Monday morning crash on I-225 left one person dead and another badly injured.
The Aurora Police Department responded to the crash, located near South Parker Road, around 6:15 AM. Upon arrival, police found that three vehicles were involved in the collision.
The APD determined that a Dodge Charger was driving south in the northbound lanes of I-225. The Charger hit a Chevrolet Silverado’s passenger side and continued traveling into oncoming traffic. The Dodge then collided head-on with a Mazda SUV.
The Dodge’s driver died at the scene of the collision. The driver of the Mazda sustained life-threatening injuries, and emergency personnel transported them to a local hospital. The Chevrolet’s driver was not injured.
Northbound I-225 was closed due to the accident. The APD and Colorado Department of Transportation diverted traffic onto local roads while investigators documented and cleaned up the collision.
Authorities will release the victim’s identity once the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office notifies the family.
Alcohol is suspected to be the cause of the collision, according to the APD. Individuals who witnessed the accident are encouraged to share any relevant information with Metro Denver Crime Stoppers.
