Empire, CO -- On Sunday afternoon, the Colorado State Patrol reported that a crash on eastbound I-70 left one dead and the interstate closed while officers investigated the scene.
The crash occurred near Empire when a motorcycle and Subaru collided; the motorcyclist died in the crash. The Colorado State Patrol has not released any details about the Subaru’s passengers.
The eastbound lanes of I-70 were reopened around 2:00 PM, but traffic was backed up to the Eisenhower Johnson Memorial Tunnels into Sunday evening, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. Passenger vehicles were diverted to county roads when possible.
