Depo-Provera Lawsuits
Begin a Depo-Provera Lawsuit with Our Attorneys
Pfizer, the manufacturer of Depo-Provera, might be liable for your losses and injuries if you used the “birth control shot” and were later diagnosed with intracranial meningioma. A recent medical study determined that using Depo-Provera may greatly increase your chances of developing meningioma, a dangerous type of tumor.
Our dangerous drug attorneys are here to help you stand up for your rights if you used Depo-Provera and developed meningioma. You might be eligible to file a Depo-Provera lawsuit with our help if:

Why Might Depo-Provera Be Dangerous?
Depo-Provera is an injectable contraceptive that uses medroxyprogesterone acetate (a synthetic progestin hormone) to interrupt ovulation and thicken cervical mucus. When injected once every three months, the drug’s effects have been proven to greatly reduce the chances of pregnancy. However, the use of medroxyprogesterone acetate and other forms of progesterone has been linked to many different side effects, some of which are considered very dangerous.
Years ago, Pfizer was sued because Depo-Provera was linked to bone density loss, which was not properly told to patients and the medical community. Now, Pfizer is under pressure again because Depo-Provera was linked to a high risk of meningioma, especially intracranial meningioma, a type of brain tumor. A study recently published by the British Medical Journal that examined the medical histories of more than 108,000 women found that Depo-Provera use for at least a year was linked to a five-times increase in meningioma risk. The link is significant enough to spur legal action on behalf of affected women nationwide.
Symptoms of Meningioma
Meningioma is a type of tumor that grows in the meninges membranes. Most reports of meningioma in Depo-Provera users involve intracranial meningioma, the type that forms on the brain’s meninges membrane. If the tumor grows or shifts positions, it can damage brain tissues and nerves.
Intracranial meningioma is known to cause a variety of serious health problems, such as:
- Limb weakness
- Hearing loss
- Vision loss
- Migraines
- Seizures
- Confusion or memory loss
Surgery is often required to treat meningioma. With any surgery involving the brain, complications can occur. In other words, women who have used Depo-Provera and developed meningioma have transitively been put at risk of complications that can happen during brain surgery.
Is Pfizer Liable for Depo-Provera Injuries?
Pfizer might be liable for Depo-Provera injuries for two main reasons:
- Pfizer could be held liable for any harm caused by Depo-Provera as a product maker due to strict product liability laws designed to protect American consumers.
- Pfizer has been accused of failing to warn consumers and medical experts about the meningioma risk side effect even though it knew or reasonably should have known about it.
In the lawsuits brought against Pfizer for Depo-Provera’s links to meningioma, plaintiffs have accused Pfizer of not only selling an unsafe drug but also failing to warn them about risks that the company potentially knew about. Our Depo-Provera attorneys can determine the strongest arguments for your lawsuit, as well as what sort of compensation might be owed to you as someone who was injured by Pfizer’s unsafe product.
If you are eligible to file a Depo-Provera lawsuit, our attorneys can help you pursue compensation that might pay for:
- Related medical expenses, including future costs
- Related lost wages, including future losses
- Pain and suffering, including future hardships
